Input, Ilokivi, Jyväskylä

This was Niitty's 6th anniversary celebration.

We played a set together with Dr.Robotnik. I think it worked out pretty well -- he made lyrics for a couple of my tunes, and I made a couple of Commodore 64 versions of his tunes, and he sang on them through his vocoder as he tends to do.

Flash, Soda Underground, Helsinki

When DJ Erkko moved to Helsinki, Niitty started this electro-club down there. I was honoured with the task of kicking off the club with DJ Mono Junk.

I had just the Commodore 64 with me once again and the place was just full of dancing people. Which was nice.

Telex goes Mindtrek, Yo-talo, Tampere

Another Club Telex in the same year for me.

I had just done a little Commodore 64 demo for Anthony Rother's Little Computer People remixes CD, so we showed that on the big screen. They had shown some animated movies called "Rieku & Raiku" earlier.

It wasn't as crowded as the Commodore 64 festival, but still pretty good. I think it must be one of the longest C=64 gigs I've done, since I was about ready to quit after an hour but they wouldn't let me, so I played another half an hour or something... 15 minute songs aren't normally my thing, but...

Reclaim The Streets Afterparty, Ilokivi, Jyväskylä

Once again at Ilokivi, at the Street Party's afterparty organized by Rikos Records.

There was also a set by Tixa & LBJ with didgeridoos and grooveboxes! :-)

Aste, Domino, Jyväskylä

Niitty had a summer club at the Domino bar.

It wasn't too crowded, but a lot of fun, I think I played Giana Sisters on their TV that time.

Koneisto, Turku

Koneisto was a great festival for electronic music held in Kupittaa Park, Turku.
I don't know what happened exactly, but one rumour was that this accordion dude Kimmo Pohjonen was thrown a bit short-notice onto the electro-stage where I was supposed to play. So naturally I was bumped out to one of the many beer tents in the area, where they in turn were not too happy to change their schedules for me... In fact they had not done so until I showed up and started asking what time I'm supposed to play. :-)
I spent some time putting together a super-special set with the Commodore 64, Roland CMU-800R, MC-202... Now I know not to do that again.

Leppäkosken Rytmifestivaali, Janakkala

Leppäkosken rytmi was a small festival at a beach in Janakkala featuring many interesting young artists from all (alternative) genres of music.

I had with me the Commodore 64 and a draggable PC for MODs. Apart from the mosquitos it was just great, the sun went down a while before my gig and there was a fire and people were dancing -- pretty primeval -- there should be more parties on beaches if you ask me.

Säätämön DBTL, Turku

Felix Kubin and Aavikko did a small tour of Finland together and I was invited to join them in Turku at Säätämö during the Down by The Laituri festival.

This was one of the rare occasions where the people actually seemed to hate my gig. I brought once again a bit more than a single Commodore 64, at least the Gameboy and the Roland CMU-800R if I remember correctly...

I felt especially envious towards Felix Kubin later that same night when he pulled out his Gameboy during his incredible act, the dancefloor was full and people clapped their hands in joy when he announced that he had made some background noises with Nanoloop. :-)

Yläkaupungin Yö, Agora, Jyväskylä

Yläkaupungin Yö is an annual arts festival in Jyväskylä. The weather was great and lots of people were out and about.

I got to play at the diner in the same building where I was working as a research assistant at the time. I played some stuff from the Commodore 64, some from the Gameboy, and some MODs as well.

Some guy complained that it was a hoax, because he'd been told there would be C=64 music, and I had all that other gear there... I still have no good explanation to give these people. If you can't hear which tunes are made with the C=64 or Gameboy, and which are MODs, then why do you care?

Jyrock, Ilokivi, Jyväskylä

Jyrock is an indoor rock festival arranged annually by the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä.

I started off my gig with a rock tune made with the "Funky Drummer" software and I had the Commodore SFX Sound Expander on another C=64, which I had to play manually.

I was initially afraid of the whole thing because I thought everyone would be expecting "rock" music, but Dr.Robotnik was playing there as well, and Peaches and Jeans Team were definitely superb, while also being somewhat electronically slanted.

The Nation, Radisson SAS, Oulu

Some people from Oulu decided to invite Dr.Robotnik and me and DJ Erkko to play there.

This time I brought along the Roland CMU-800R, which connects to the Commodore 64. Half my tunes were made with the CMU's internal sounds only, and those are much crappier than the internal sounds of the Commodore 64, which of course made up the other half.

This one was one of the more eventful trips. The weather was horrible, lots of snow and freezing cold and on the way there the lights started fading in the car. During the night the electricity had died completely and we had to push it to a service station. Luckily they just rewound the charger or whatever, and we got the car back pretty fast after going for pizza.

Liskojen Yö, Telakka, Tampere

Rikos Records and Telex arranged an eclectic three floor happening at Telakka in the heart of Tampere.

I brought along my Commodore 64, but this time also a lot of other toys such as the Nord Rack and the Yamaha DX100, and played a very chilled-out set. It was recorded, and at some point it was in the net. I have the CD-R somewhere.

Tuomas from Giant Robot did a great job under the alias "Helsinki Bass Machine" with a lot more minimalistic gear, like a TB-303 and TR-606 or something...

Modification, Kåren, Turku

Skeletor records had a massive 2-year birthday celebration party and I got to play on another pretty big stage before Miss Kittin & The Hacker.

Just as I was leaving with my Commodore-bag I was interviewed by some people from the MoonTV-channel (RIP). I don't know if they ever showed it on the air, but they stunned me by saying I was better than MK&TH (yeah right).

The Ultimate Commodore 64 Party, Yo-Talo, Tampere

Telex is one of Finland's longest running electronic music clubs, and as far as I know this was their most successful event ever. The queue outside went around the block as the place was literally full of people.

I got 15 seconds of fame as I was interviewed for the TV program JYRKI. I have a capture of the clip, but I'm so nervous in it I don't want to put it online. :-) The only comment I get is something about me making music with other gear besides the C=64 too. And of course they left out the question, which was "Why do you make music with the C=64 only?"
