Alternative Party 2009, Cable Factory, Helsinki

Once again, I was playing at the Alternative Party at the Cable Factory in Helsinki. First the schedule was an hour late because they couldn't find a subwoofer cable (pun intended). Finally they let Healium play without the subs... And then I got to play a whole 30 minutes before the crowded bar unexpectedly closed. It was the night that the clocks were being moved back (daylight savings) so everyone was expecting another hour of openness... It was a lot of fun while it lasted, though!

Lisäelämä, Rentukka, Jyväskylä

Lisäelämä is a gaming club that has spread from Turku to Jyväskylä. This was their second time in Jyväskylä and I got to play some music for them. The main competition was in Tekken, but there were lots of other games and consoles from SNES to the "third" (?) generation.

Linnunlaulujoulu, Ilokivi, Jyväskylä

Radio Hear had a pre-Christmas event called Linnunlaulujoulu at Ilokivi and I was playing my Christmas songs upstairs with DJ's Ukkosporo and Robottitohtori.

University Days, Agora, Jyväskylä

The Faculty of Information Technology at the University of Jyväskylä held their annual alumni event with the theme "Echoes of the past - winds of the future". I don't know which side of the theme I was representing, but I was summoned to perform two tunes while having some food. I made slowed-down, drumless versions of some tunes because I figured they wouldn't be dancing...

This was nice, I got to celebrate my somewhat-delayed graduation. I just got my degree two days earlier. The last five years I spent writing my thesis on "The History Of Computer Music Before PC Soundcards". Phew!

Sähköjänis-klubi, Ilokivi, Jyväskylä

Sähköjänis is a festival in Pieksämäki. This time they had a club in Jyväskylä as well and I was playing there with Aprox. and Trio Pussit.

Microdisko, Alcazar, Stockholm, Sweden

I boated over the bay (during the worst storm in five years) to visit Microdisko in Stockholm and played them some beats from the old breadbox. I was playing between Dirty 1200 and Dorothy's Magic Bag.

I dare say they liked it. In fact, they went crazy. I had a roomful of Swedes chanting "Suomi, Suomi"... How can you beat that? :-)

Kulturnyheterna did a piece on Microdisko and they interviewed me too, but thankfully they didn't use any of it in the clip. There's a couple of small glimpses of me playing at the party though. That has to count as at least 5 more seconds of fame in addition to the 15 I got from JYRK: before...

There's some pictures of the event already! Plus this one I took:

Avaruusdisko, Kuudes Linja, Helsinki

Avaruusdisko at the Kuudes Linja bar in Helsinki. Tuomas Toivonen played a set to celebrate the release of his New Album. Unfortunately he was bothered by some Friday the 13th -style technical problems (a missing wall-wart?). The place was packed when he was playing and I guess it cleared up nicely after I started :-)... But I did get a whole bunch of them dancing.

Then about 15 minutes into the set I was told it was too "difficult" and that I should cut it short. :-( But basically, that puts me in the same company with Marshall Jefferson...

This Is Not Ibiza, Ilokivi, Jyväskylä

Once again at Ilokivi. This was a nice party co-arranged by Jyväskylä's own Phonour and Sievä clubs and Efekti RY. All the local greats were there, DJ's Naks & Wille R, Juho Kahilainen, Dr.Robotnik live in the upstairs, and also J-P Parikka from Tampere playing records.

Valtakunta, Palatsi, Turku

Valtakunta was a two-day indoor festival at a huge youth center in Turku. Too bad for the organizers, there were not too many people inside, but it started to look like a party for a while, when I started playing and the people crawled out from their holes and headed for the dancefloor. Really! :-)

There were some rap artists and bands, but I played the C=64 in prime time after an electronic chill-out band called Deepsea Submarines, and after me there was Mesak.

Universomo, Olutravintola Konttori, Tampere

Mobile game warehouse Universomo had some kind of business suit party at the sauna cabinet of Olutravintola Konttori and I entertained them for a while with the Commodore 64.

Kisko Raide 3, Helsinki

Hytky (the friends of techno culture at the University of Helsinki) arranged a "disco" night with Polytron, me, DJ Bob Ryynänen and DJ Wilai. Nice!

Old School Throwdown, Päiväkoti, Turku

The tour continued on the next day to Päiväkoti in Turku. I thought it was a bit nicer than the previous day: Much more of the local -- and even Helsinki's -- electro scene had dropped in to enjoy the stuff.

Old School Throwdown, Liberté, Helsinki

DJ Lupaus on the decks. Looks like he's wondering what all those knobs are for.

We actually went on a small tour with Dr.Robotnik. The first gigs were at Liberté, deep in the heart of Kallio in Helsinki. The club was arranged by DJ Rideon and Jaakko from Imatran Voima.

Flash, Rose Garden, Helsinki

Fourth time at Flash, I think :-).

Rose Garden was a fun place, the main room looked a lot like the long-gone sOda Underground, but there were lots of other stages in there where people could hide... It looked like it wasn't going to be a huge success when I started, but that changed pretty fast when people moved towards the dance floor from the other rooms.

There weren't as many computer scene people around as in previous Flashes.
